Back to Detail Page

RACHAMANKHA

Situated in the heart of historic Chiang Mai old city founded in 1296, the 25-room and suite Rachamankha is next to Wat Phra Singh, justifiably the city’s most famous temple (cir. 1345). Four temples of notable interest are within easy walking distance from the hotel, out of thirty-three functioning wats or temples in the walled city of old Chiang Mai.

Rachamankha, the leading luxury boutique hotel, does not reveal itself to the passerby, but excites curiosity and creates a receptive mood. Only after passing through the hotel forecourt, the Zen-like simplicity and sophistication of the colonnaded courtyards welcome guests to the world of serenity and contentment. The hotel distinctive architecture aesthetic is inspired by the eleventh centuries B.C. vernacular Chinese dwellings, from which Northern Thai architecture has its roots. Rachamankha was designed by Thai architect Ong-ard Satrabhandhu in the style of residential living to encourage a genuine feel for the history and culture of Lanna Chiang Mai. A leisure walk reveals hidden courtyards and gardens where unexpected surprises and captivating spaces are to be found on every turn.   The Library at Rachamankha exudes old world charm and character; it houses over 2,000 books ranging from novels to work on Thai history of art and architecture, design and culture. The library lounge is a relaxing place for conversation and refreshments.   The enchanting open-air massage pavilion overlooks a tranquil 20-meter pool where drinks and light snacks are served pool-side throughout the day.

Room

The interior of Rachamankha was conceived according to an oriental concept of simplicity albeit with extraordinary attention to detail. Walls are made with traditional lime plaster over handmade brick, the same technique used in temples since the founding of Chiang Mai in 1296. The founder, Rooj Changtrakul, supervises every detail of every room, from choosing antique Chinese cabinets, area rugs to the arrangement of flowers. Of the 23 luxurious superior and deluxe bedrooms and two exquisite suites fully equipped with every amenity for either work or leisure: wireless internet connection, cable TV with large LED screen and CD/DVD player. The common design theme is the uninhibited mix of antiques from different period around the world, from Europe, Africa, China, Burma and Thailand scattered throughout the hotel. The owner, not prepared to compromise, is always trying to improve on the furnishing and decoration. A regular guest will find something new every time he comes back to stay.
