Plettenberg Bay was recently caught up in its third battle against the world's premier African beach destinations for the top rank. Among its competitors for the travel industry Oscar were Cape Town, Egypt and Mozambique.
Whilst all short listed contestants are considered international gems, Plett is only rivalled by Mozambique as a naturalist's paradise. Whilst Cape Town took the award, Plettenberg bay caps it in terms of its natural treasures: Its waters are some of the most diverse and beautiful for visitors who wish to evade urban hubbub and pollution. This little resort paradise is crammed with spotted, striped, feathered and finned creatures living above and below sea level. Adventurers adore Plettenberg Bay holidays for their extreme caving, dramatic surfing conditions and their crowning feature, the world's highest commercial bungy bridge. The Bloukrans Bridge lies 216 metres above land and crosses the spectacular Bloukrans River. Visitors in search of a more sedate holiday to Plettenberg Bay, South Africa take to the Cango Caves. Scuba diving is accompanied by spectacularly hued corals, sponges and anemone. Plett is whale territory, so the lucky are treated to visions of these enormous creatures breaching, singing and calving. Plettenberg Bay is located a two and half hour drive from Port Elizabeth.
