Snapper Rocks, Coolangatta

Snapper Rocks, Coolangatta

The famous Snapper Rocks lies on the northern side of Point Danger. The area is one of the most popular point breaks in the seaside town of Coolangatta where surfing is the prime daytime activity. Unbeknownst to many at the time, a historical event occurred in 1995 that would change the area's landscape.

In April of that year, sand was pumped out of the Tweed River into Snapper Rocks creating what became known as a Superbank and resulting in swells that would create the long and spectacular surf break that surfers enjoy today

Known for its length and consistency, waves have been known to carry surfers over a kilometre all the way past Kirra Point. Today, Snapper Rocks has become perhaps the most popular point breaks in Australia, drawing the best professional surfers from around the globe.
