CLARENCE

CLARENCE

The small town of Clarence is located along Bell's Line of Road between Bell and Lithgow.

Clarence rates a special mention as it is the home town of the famous Zig Zag Railway.

The Zig Zag Railway was constructed in the late 1800’s and took around three years to complete. Today the Zig Zag Railway is a must see for any visitor to the Blue Mountains as you take a ride on a railway journey through history.

The technology of this famous railway was a remarkable engineering breakthrough of the 19th century, overcoming the steep descent of the Blue Mountains via a system of railway cuttings, tunnels and viaducts.

The Zig Zag Railway, Steam trains operate every weekend, public holiday, Wednesday and during the week in the NSW public school holidays. Vintage rail motors run at all other times.

Departures are at 11.00am, 1.00pm and 3.00pm.

Vintage Railmotors operate mid week except Wednesdays, NSW School Holidays and Public Holidays. Departures from Clarence: 11.00am, 1.00pm, and 3.00pm

On the rail motor trips the train stops at two scenic lookouts and passengers are taken on a guided tour of the workshops.
