MEGALONG VALLEY

MEGALONG VALLEY

Megalong Valley is simply magic. While the view from the Hydro Majestic Hotel at Medlow Bath is breathtaking, a drive down into the valley itself is an unforgettable experience. Megalong Valley is primarily a farming community for the locals, yet offers adventure for visitors to the valley.

Megalong Valley offers some of the best horse riding adventures available in Australia with many venues offering rides for beginners through to experienced riders. One of the Blue Mountains’ major tourist attractions is the Megalong Australian Heritage Centre offering entertainment for the whole family, including stockmen shows and the famous Megalong Farm.

To get to the Megalong Valley, simply turn off the Great Western Highway at the Blackheath railway crossing and you are on your way to adventure.

The natural beauty of the Megalong Valley allows any visitor to unwind. The aboriginal word megalong means ‘valley below the cliffs’, (yet another Blue Mountains town with an Aboriginal name).

The fabulous Cox’s River passes through the valley, and it is via this river in 1818, Thomas Jones was believed to be the first European visitor to the area. Thomas Jones ventured into the valley to explore its natural vegetation.

On your journey into the valley you will be captured by Mermaids Glen and Coachwood G

Megalong Valley hosts one of the Blue Mountains best picnic grounds at the Old Ford Reserve which is located along Megalong Road by the Megalong Creek.

Within the Valley you will find an old steam engine which was once used at the Carrington Hotel in Katoomba. An old shack, Huntling Lodge, can also be seen at the base of the cliffs which was once owned by the developer of the Hydro Majestic Hotel, Mr Mark Foy.

Megalong Valley is an ideal escape from the rest of the world, especially for those who wish to experience Australian bush land, horse riding adventures, and accommodation to suit.
